Core Stability

Core stability involves recruiting the deep muscles of the trunk in order to stabilise the neck, lumbar spine, pelvis and shoulder girdle. It involves integrating your breathing and correctly activating your muscles in order that the spine is fully supported from the inside.
Correct muscle activation provides a firm foundation for efficient movement.
You will develop a solid foundation and base of support from which you can build poised and balanced movement. This process can prevent injury and allow powerful movement of your limbs on a stable base. Core stability has an important role to play in improving your movement, both with regard to daily function, pain reduction and sporting achievement.
Core stability training can involve a physio facilitating your movement with verbal commands, ‘hands on’ encouragement of movement, and use of various adjuncts including gym ball and wobbleboard.
When you no longer require 1 to 1 treatment, Pilates and Yoga classes can be an ideal way to maintain and progress your control.
