Hot Stone massage

altWhat Is Hot Stone Massage?

Hot stone massage is an intensely relaxing treatment, using heated iron-rich basalt volcanic stones to knead away knots and sooth tired muscles. The client is engulfed in warmth, and the therapist can massage more deeply, taking it beyond the realms of a typical massage into a deeper dimension of relaxation. When hot stones are applied to the skin, the heat is carried down to the deeper layers by conduction, bringing physiological and systemic changes to the body. They act as a sedative on the body, promoting relaxation. Increased blood flow to the areas treated improve flexibility as the connective tissues are relaxed, and help detoxification with stimulation of blood flow and lymph drainage.

What Are Hot Stones?

The stones used are basalt, a volcanic rock formed from the hot lava which eruptsfrom the volcano and flows down the outside. They vary in colour from grey/green to almost black. Over many years, a concentrated mass of minerals and crystals is formed through exposure of the lava to sun, wind, rain and pressure, and the resultant stone is known for its heat and cold retention properties, making it ideal for use in stone therapy.

What Are The Benefits Of Hot Stone Massage?

Hot stone massage carries all the benefits of traditional massage, is very relaxing and soothing and has the added benefits of improved circulation, lymph flow and detoxification. The stones are used with blended essential oils, with their inherent healing and therapeutic properties, giving the client a holistic overall treatment for body, mind and spirit.
